visiting a park on Weston seafront and finding a heap of great looking leather coloured leaves under the skeletons of trees we collected an armful of bounty!
now 24 hours later silk mordanted, leaves scattered on the silk, all rolled and wrapped and boiled now the great reveal - we have a fabulous golden sunshine square.  Joyous and scrumptious it makes me smile!

Flitting and fretting!

Flitting and fretting over the upcoming need for work, a recent masterclass has helped to hone in on ways forward and if I can keep my butterfly brain still then all will be well!

An upcoming exhibition opportunity looms and I need functioning website, labels, work packed and checked, new cards and samples, table cover, new business artist cards, oh and so much more!! Best gird those loins and get on with it then!!

then there is this!!!
Titles to work on -

Genetics
Wasted
Symbols and Codes

Genetics
Seed husks, disrupted stems and leaves, did you know that the sycamore is amongst the oldest of our tree genus? and is linked to the London Plane and the Maple!  and is one of a flowering plant species in the soapberry and lychee family Sapindaceae.   the botanical name of sycamore, Acer pseudoplatanus, means 'like a plane tree'.  The seeds are highly poisonous to horses!!

Drawings and trial dyepots underway.  How do I feel about the seeds, the genetics and the majesty of the tree?  What do I want to say about them? Questions, questions!!

Wasted
Such fun to come.   So far collected:- old aged and disrupted tin cans, paper, gold leaf.
paper now spun into a cord with a myriad of colours spinning and twisting, looks amazing in a ball of twists and coils.
the cans are hammered flat by numerous cars over time and now being reshaped into leaves and seeds, birds and butterflies.

Symbols and Codes
knots and quipu tales of mystery, conundrums and imaginations!!

starting over

Starting Over on a new project is always enticing, exciting the mind to dive in and explore.
Secrets and Codes - I am looking at the Chachapoyu peoples' stories that were recorded as knotted cords, it is believed they were made and worn as neck adornment.  The language, 'quipu' not yet fully deciphered, is ancient and fascinating, a mystery waiting for discovery.  I wonder what the
stories tell - are they merely politics, or tales of rituals, of rain and drought, hardship and delights?
Creating my own response is something to think about, why, where, what and how!!?

I saw a fab skein of cord twisted and knotted that I am drawing on for inspiration.  look at those loops and curves, the rhythm and counterpoint of the twisted elements.

One of my brothers is a maritime knot tying expert and I have a book he has written so I must drag the tome from the bookshelf and find some beauties that I can survey.  I like the idea of working with cut leather strips and maybe also some flax or silk fibre. now to go get dyeing and playing - more later!!
